Five things to do to start your day with better energy.

Nothing is tougher on a mom than a crazy chaotic morning. I know we have all been in the situation where we wake up late, bus is coming in fifteen minutes, and no ones moving fast enough where they’re going to make things on time. It is very difficult in these moments, still waking up to keep ones composure believe me, I’ve been there. I’ve actually been in this position so many times that I had to re-evaluate how I started my day. The constant panicked start to my day was inevitably taking its toll as day by day I started noticing that I was increasingly short with people, still tired, and easily irritable.

I recognized the need for a change so I started experimenting with different morning routines to help me as a mother, and woman feel more fulfilled with my time from getting up to getting everyone on task. Everyone can find what works for them by experimenting with different scenarios until something sticks, but these are what worked for me to have a healthier morning.

Wake up earlier then everyone else.

I know this sounds counter productive to having energy, but trust me, getting your thoughts together alone in the morning, and taking some time for yourself before the stress of your day starts is sometimes worth the alarm going off early. It makes you in less of a mad rush to get things started, keeping your anxiety lower going into the day.

Have a glass of water before your coffee.

Seems silly I know, but starting your body every morning with a simple glass of water gives your body notification that the day has started, and supplies your organs with the perfect substance to get everything awake, and alert inside. Studies have shown also, that if you are looking to lose weight, simply starting the day with a glass of water can boost your metabolism throughout the day, and contribute to less food cravings throughout it, and who doesn’t appreciate that?

Do a small act of kindness for yourself.

Whether it be meditation, listening to a podcast you enjoy, or simply dancing crazy-like to an old 90s soundtrack, anything that can set off serotonin in your body can help shift your mood for the day, and this alone can make huge difference when entering into a high stress level environment.

Practice good hygienic habits.

I totally get that there are days we don’t want to do anything, but sit in our pajamas all day, and especially for work from home ladies or home making mamas this ones the hardest for you, and I totally understand. What’s the point if I’m not going anywhere today? I’ve caught myself guilty of this more times then I can count, believe me. The thing is, when you get into a routine of getting clean, and dressed in the morning, you’re not only consciously telling your mind its a new day, but you are also doing another action that causes elevated feel good chemicals to go off in your brain because in hindsight, you are taking care of your brains most important person, and that’s yourself.

Make your bed.

This one seems over simplified, but there’s a good reason you should make your bed everyday and it has everything to do with keeping a goal oriented mindset. When you do something as simple as making your bed in the morning you are literally starting the day with an accomplishment. Albeit small, it still is a task completed which subconsciously gets you in the mindset to crush your goals today because your starting strong with something completed and finished before you even have breakfast.

Honestly, doing these small five tasks makes you feel strong, and ready for the day.. Funny how small actions like these can pull out your inner fierce woman who’s ready for the days challenges head on with sass, and class.
