Ready, Set, Relax

Many of us moms have felt that moment. You know the one I’m talking about, The kids are screaming, the house is a wreck, there is 15 minutes before your in laws are supposed to be there, and something is steadily starting to fill the house with a nasty, all too familiar odor.

In these moments, every instinct of your being is screaming RUN! You may feel hot tears on your cheeks, or the exhaustion has finally caught up, and you can’t take anymore. Honey, let me tell you, I have these moments all too much. I’ve steadily become a firm believer in what I affectionally refer to as a, “ Mommy Timeout.” Sometimes our kids aren’t the only ones who need a moment to get a grip ( lets face it, a lot of the time we don’t have a grip on much)

I literally tell my kids, I’m out! And go outside or in my room, and make it a point to do a full 30 second breathing count to literally decompress. It takes practice! It sounds easy, but introducing a new routine to our already chaotic schedules takes work!

Understanding that your mental in these moments are just as important as solving your mini worlds problems and without you right, you cant make a lick of difference for the situation. So, next time dinners burning, your partner is snoring, and the kids have found another creative use for the toothpaste, remember, to take a half a moment for you, and change your perspective on purpose.
