Weekend Adventures!

My adventures this weekend began with an early morning trip to the grocery store. This is typical of my weekend errands as I do it every weekend. Depending on how early it is, a trip to Dunkins comes first because lets face it, obtaining optimum functioning level is so much more difficult without coffee. Once I’m several sips into my java, I make my way over to my local grocery store, Kroger, and start what I like to call Operation what the hell are we eating this week. Keep in mind stores like this always seem to give me some kind of anxiety because its forever so busy, and there are always way to many damn people moving around. Once inside, I bee line to produce first because my kids are fruit trash compactors, and I always like to see what kinda deals I can find for fresh stuff over the freeze dried stuff. This weekend wasn’t much different then any other, and I bumbled my way through the store rather seamlessly.

Once home, the man decides we are going out together to run other errands, and spend some much needed adult time just riding around, yay! If you are a mom, you totally understand the precious need of adult interaction after weeks of Little Baby Bum, and Kpop. Completely hyper, and potentially a little to excited to get away from my children, I practically run to hop in the car.

We head out on our mini adventure and find local people selling things in tents on the side of the road here in our little town. My beau and I both are avid supporters of the small business man, and find ourselves stopping, and picking up a few items that we both like regarding our second amendment, which is what this man was selling merch of. I got an excellent button that reads, “ Girls just want to have guns” How can you even argue with that?

Once back in the car and a few errands later, we find ourself at yet another street seller only this time it was fresh produce! Nothing gets me more excited then fresh veggies lately I swear so I got some of everything this gentleman had to sell. Fresh tomatoes, green tomatoes, yellow squash, sweet potatoes, a watermelon and a jar of local wildflower honey! Yum! Now, here’s the kicker guys.. I got whole bags of each of these things and. Think in total, the entire purchase was 36 dollars…THAT’S IT! I got back in the car thinking about how much I spent this morning on genetically altered produce at my local grocery store, and It completely dawned on me that shopping locally was not only WAY more nutritious for my family, but also a hell of a lot cheaper!

So, lesson learned, from now on my routine has been forever altered because after that coffee pick up, I’m going to be headed to find one of my local farmers every Saturday, to make a better, more supportive, and health conscious choice for my family, and who knows, maybe next year, we’ll be growing for ourselves!
